Experiencia fantástica: Visité la escuela durante dos semanas: una semana en la clase de Diana y una semana en la clase de Juanse. Me gustaron mucho los dos profesores. Diana es muy amable y su clase es divertida. En su clase hablamos mucho, y eso fue muy útil para mí. En la clase de Juanse aprendí nueva gramática. Disfruté mucho mi tiempo en la escuela.

Experiencia negativa: Took two weeks of courses , which was my first introduction to Spanish as I never had studied it earlier. First week was OK. Second week we were too many in the class, move too quick for some of us which were completely beginners. They didn't even try to change the plan (which they didn't really tell us about either) to help us that we're struggling but instead we did an hour of B1/B2 stuff that went way over our head. Bunch of other stuff which we have no use for. Teacher constantly running late by 5-10 min . Break of 30min is minimum 40 and even had a break of 1h.. The Fridays is not even classes but a field activity (if the group decides , if you don't but the group want then you'll have to go ) which is ok but it doesn't really teach you anything ; "you'll practise and get immersed into the Colombian culture " - I had rather do the class that I paid for . cannot recommend

Experiencia fantástica: Had an amazing time in my 8 weeks of classes at Toucan! I came in with a very basic level in Spanish and left feeling comfortable talking about just about anything! My teachers Sara, Juanse and Moisés were amazing, not just great teachers but I feel like I've made new friends! I'd definitely recommend Toucan!

Experiencia positiva: My boyfriend and I only had a few free days during our week in Poblado so we decided to opt for the private couple lessons. Our lessons with Mariana were excellent, we loved her teaching style and she was so patient, helpful, and organized. Those lessons really helped me to get more comfortable speaking. Unfortunately we had a disappointing experience with our last day of lessons. To start, there was a small scheduling mishap which they were able to fix. When we arrived on the day of the lesson, the teacher and room had been changed from what they told us, but no one had communicated it to us so we waited outside and eventually went up to the office to be led to the correct room, causing our lesson to start late. I’m really sorry to say but the lesson quality was also very poor and a waste of our time and money. We actually thought about leaving mid lesson. The teacher didn’t ask us what we wanted to practice, had no activities or lesson planned, and talked about random things that aren’t relevant for us to learn or vocabulary that we have already learned from studying Spanish in school for 4+ years (e.g. numbers…) It honestly felt like he was just trying to kill time and we ended the class early because he ran out of things to talk about. We were really confused and disappointed and found it to be a discouraging day in our learning journey. I would have preferred if they just canceled and refunded our last day of lessons since our original teacher wasn’t available. I wanted to reach out to the school directly to discuss this but could only locate the enrollment team number who just told me to wait for a feedback form that I haven’t received. Communication, organization, and teaching consistency could be improved.

Experiencia positiva: My experience with Toucan Spanish School overall was good. This is particularly thanks to my experience in the classes with Moises who was an incredibly charismatic person and a great teacher. I really enjoyed his style of teaching of analysing songs and videos to learn new vocabulary and grammar points. Luckily, I was in a relatively small group of students which meant we had lots of opportunities to talk and Moises listened to our recommendations for what we wanted to learn. By the end of the two weeks I felt like my Spanish had progressed really well. The downside was that the school itself felt quite disorganised. It didn't feel like the placement test we completed was used effectively as the first day we had a large class of very varied abilities which was eventually filtered but meant that we lost the first hour or two of teaching. Likewise, the Monday of our second week was a holiday and it was not communicated to the students that there was a timetable change meaning some students arrived late missing part of the class and would have attended the school on Monday had the information not been communicated through word of mouth of other students.

Experiencia fantástica: We had a wonderful time at Toucan Spanish! I was in B2 with Moises and my husband was in A2 with Marianna and Sara. All were fantastic and we really improved, especially in our ability to speak Spanish without fear. The excursions on Fridays were great. I particularly enjoyed the hike near Envigado where we saw MONKEYS!!! Daniel in the office is so hard working, kind and always ready to help with whatever you need to find in Medellin. Being at the school is a super way to connect with other language learners from around the world. Highly recommend.

Experiencia fantástica: I can’t recommendToucan Spanish school in Medellin highly enough. I chose to have daily two hour private lessons, which was perfect. My fabulous teacher was Juliana Quintero. She is highly experienced and expertly tailors her teaching to your Spanish level and your goals. She is vivacious, patient, kind, and simply an excellent teacher. I’d also like to commend Daniel, the administrator who juggles the teachers’ and students’ complicated schedules, constantly needs to solve problems on the fly, and is always ready to give advice or help students in any way he can. While he does all this, he manages to be friendly and kind to students staff alike.

Experiencia fantástica: I had two excellent teachers for private lessons, Dayana and Juan Pablo, in the week I was at Toucan. They were well prepared with exercise and tioics for conversations and explained grammatical points with greast clarity. In addition, they had interesting observations about Spanish vocabulary and usage in various parts of South America. Five stars to both of them! And, Daniel was very helpful in the main office.

Experiencia negativa: Really poorly run school. I had 11 students in my class on one day and even after complaining to the management the following week there was a class of 13 students. The “classrooms” are more like Airbnb flats than rooms fit for study. Expect to be asked to move furniture more than you are asked questions in Spanish. I would highly recommend against this school if you want to learn Spanish

I want to connect with more people in this world with respect, to understand their stories, and to honor their culture by speaking their language. Toucan Spanish School has been a gift on that path. I started with Lizeth Gómez from Cali for three weeks of online sessions and then continued in Medellín with Diana, Moises, and Juanse for in-person classes. The intensity, the camaraderie, the structure. I loved all of it. My classmates came from all over the world and the energy in the classroom made the challenge fun. What stood out most was the heart behind the teaching. The instructors aren’t there just to do a job. They’re passionate, committed, and genuinely invested in your growth. You feel it from day one. I left a piece of my heart with the Toucan staff and with the beautiful people of Colombia. If you’re serious about learning a language, Toucan is an incredible choice. Experiencia fantástica: We spent a week at Toucan in Medellin in a group class of only 3. Everyone at Toucan was very friendly but Marianna was our teacher and was the best, she was so incredibly friendly and helpful and made the whole experience so relaxed and fun. We weren’t the most confident at first so her style was perfect and made us feel very comfortable. We would loved to have stayed longer if we had more time!

My instructor Moises was always willing and able to answer surprise grammar or vocabulary questions, personalized my lessons and the content to my interests and needs, and adapted well to my learning environment needs and style. I highly recommend the very personable and knowledgeable teachers at this school, as well as all of the very friendly, helpful, and professional staff that support them!

Experiencia fantástica: I had an absolutely amazing four weeks at Toucan Spanish School. When I arrived, I only had a very basic understanding of Spanish, but I’m leaving now able to understand and follow most of the conversations happening around me. The school’s teaching method is truly effective, instead of long, tedious grammar lectures, the focus is on active communication and real conversations with teachers and fellow students. The four-hour group sessions fly by and are always engaging, fun, and dynamic. A special thank you to Sara, who is an outstanding teacher: patient, motivating, and incredibly skilled at explaining not just the language but also the culture and daily life in Medellín and Colombia. Her passion for teaching made every class a joy. Overall, a 5/5 experience. I can’t recommend Toucan Spanish School enough if you want to really improve your Spanish in an immersive, enjoyable way.

Experiencia fantástica: Moisés is an excellent teacher. He is thoroughly engaging and helped me both with review and advancing my level of Spanish such that I felt comfortable talking about more complex subjects with confidence. Our outing to the fruit market was a highlight as we were able to engage with many local people and Moisés was an excellent guide. I appreciated very much his openness with sharing his passions for dance and philosophical topics and we had several memorable conversations in Spanish about these ideas. JuanSe is also a very engaging and knowledgeable teacher with a strong ability to engage and encourage us to speak at a more advanced level. We really pushed ourselves to cover difficult tenses and JuanSe was able to pinpoint our errors and help us correct them. Our outing to Park Arvi was ultra memorable and a super opportunity to get to know local culture. I am sad to leave Toucan school. I wish I could have stayed longer. Very highly recommended. My wife and I have been trying to learn Spanish with online tools and needed the assistance of an expert teacher to "level up." I did a sample class and loved it. I’ve done private classes with both Sara and Mariana and they are both absolute gems. The classes are excellent, and the language exchanges have been a lot of fun - great way to meet people and practice what you’re learning. What really stands out is how helpful the school has been with everything I’ve needed - from tattoos to finding a creative space. They go above and beyond just teaching Spanish. Experiencia fantástica: I thoroughly enjoyed my four weeks at Toucan Language School. My two main teachers during this time, Sara and Moisés, were both very passionate, knowledgeable, and patient. They gave me the best possible support in improving my Spanish skills. The school offers an optional language exchange every Wednesday evening. Every Friday, there is also the option of going on a class trip to improve Spanish skills outside the classroom.

Experiencia fantástica: We had Sara for a week of beginner classes and we’ve gone from being able to speak very very limited Spanish to now asking advanced questions and having regular conversations with people. We love her teaching style as well as the class programming structure, honestly it was a very very very positive experience for us.

My confidence in using Spanish in daily life increased significantly over the course of 4 weeks. I had both group classes and private 1:1 classes too. Mariana was such a patient, kind and encouraging teacher and got to know all the students so well. I did additional classes with Moíses who helped build my confidence in speaking in real life situations whilst out and about. The school is located in a very central location of El Poblado and easy to commute to. Medellin is a great city to learn Spanish and Toucan is a great school to learn in!

Experiencia positiva: Unfortunately I didn't have as positive of an experience at Toucan Spanish School in Medellin as many of the other reviewers. Our teacher acted and told us that she was exhausted, talked too quickly for our level (low intermediate) and got very frustrated when I asked her to slow down, and didn't really have a structured lesson plan. There were four of us in the class, and she seemed to teach to the one that was the most advanced, sometimes leaving several of us in the dark.

Experiencia fantástica: I highly recommend studying Spanish at Toucan language school in Medellin. I am finishing my first week of 4 weeks of study, and enjoy the class more every day. Profesora Sara is amazing! She is attentive to each student and makes the class fun and interesting. I particularly like the teaching approach. Based on learning Spanish that is important to travelers and people needing to communicate with the world around them. I also think the constant verbal practice is very important for students to not be shy of speaking. I took a 4-week immersion class in Granada Spain a year ago, and Sara is superior! I thank the school and Sara for the quality educational experience!

Experiencia fantástica: I did six weeks of group, plus a one-week side trip to Arequipa, Peru. Was in a B1 level class with Moisés as instructor. We typically began each class with a "What I did after class yesterday" exercise which had us develop a variety past tense verb forms, as we also learned about each other and the many cool things to do in Medellín. Moisés paced the lessons well, using a variety of learning tools including online exercises. Instead of tests and time-consuming homework, he encouraged us to engage with locals while exploring Medellín (parks, buses, taxis, bars, cafes, etc), which helped my confidence and my communication skills. He also speaks with a clear, understandable voice and is patient and considerate. The weekly excursions were fun and informative. I made several new friends, as group language lessons tend to attract curious like-minded people. I highly recommend Toucan, and beautiful Medellín

She customized the class to our needs, planned different activities and encouraged us to talk about a variety of topics. The activities on Fridays and Colombian sweets every week were also fun. Experiencia negativa: One of the worst learning experiences we've ever had. This Spanish school was an absolute disaster from start to finish. The teacher constantly mixed up grammar rules and tenses, wrote incorrect information on the board, and came completely unprepared. He couldn't remember our names even after several classes, repeatedly made the same mistakes, and often seemed distracted or disengaged. He also showed up late multiple times, which further disrupted the already chaotic classes. What made things worse was the school's lack of accountability. They had promised to refund part of the money to students who ended the course early—but they never followed through. Our messages were ignored, and we were left feeling completely dismissed. This experience not only wasted our time and money—it actively damaged our progress in learning Spanish. We’re incredibly disappointed and frustrated. Avoid this school at all costs.

Experiencia fantástica: i have been studying Spanish virtually with Valeria from Toucan’s Cali location for almost a year and it was the best decision i have ever made for my journey to fluency. I started at an intermediate level in preparing for a 3-month trip to Colombia and Valeria helped to push me to the next level in skill and confidence. I felt so prepared after freshening up my grammar skills and also learning so much about Colombia’s culture and even different accents and slang! Experiencia fantástica: I spent a month at Toucan Spanish school taking a combination of both group and individual classes and I LOVED it! All of the staff were very welcoming, warm and friendly. If you needed support outside of class to organise tours (or anything else) Daniel was always on hand to support and give us Colombian sweets (he’s an absolute star). I liked that the classes were not too big and it meant that we were able to receive more bespoke sessions depending on where we needed to grow as a group. I’m very biased but my teacher Moisés is THE BEST. Moisés es muy fomentado y me ayudó muchissimo con mi español. He always brought enthusiasm and fun to the classes and it often feels like a conversation rather than a lesson. The sessions were always interactive with a focus on speaking. He helped me build my confidence, was excellent at breaking down and explaining rules in a way I could understand and taught me about the culture too. I’m so grateful for his insights and for going above and beyond to give me the best experience. Also big shout out to JuanSe who I was matched with initially and then moved to my correct level, he was brilliant and super friendly too. Experiencia fantástica: I had an amazing two-week experience at the Toucan Spanish school. The teachers were great— young, fun and skilled. They tailored each lesson to our needs and were always ready to look up and explain any topics we found challenging. The admin was very helpful, and even let me make up two days the following week after missing two due to a long weekend trip. Every Friday, we had the option to go on excursions as a practical way to learn. During these outings, we engaged in interactive learning: we would point at various objects, and the teacher would translate them, helping us apply what we’d learned in a real-world setting. Whether we were hiking in the mountains, exploring art museums, visiting fruit markets, or discovering other cultural gems in Medellín. Additionally, Wednesday evenings featured language exchanges and dance sessions, adding a fun, interactive element to our studies. Overall, I’m extremely satisfied with my time there and will definitely be coming back.

Experiencia fantástica: I learned Spanish for two weeks at Toucan Spanish School during my stay in Cali and it was great! My teacher Valeria taught me very well spanish and adapted also the courses to the needs of the group. For me it was a very good and interactive learning experience with nice teaching methods which made t possible for me to communicate in Spanish now!

Experiencia fantástica: I was learning Spanish with Duolingo for couple years, and decided to take a week of Spanish while at Medellín. The google search suggested Toucan school as a solid school with a good reputation, and rightly so. My level, according to the school's test, was between A1 and A2. I was placed in A2 group. There were 3 more people in my group, all with better Spanish than I. My biggest challenge was speaking. After Duo I know some grammar but didn't have any speaking practice. It became pretty stressful in couple days when we started to learn futures and reflexivos. I'm in my mid-sixties, and it takes time for me to absorb the new constructs before srarting to use them. Now I'm thinking that maybe I should've asked to place me to A1. However, I'm glad I stayed in this group. The teacher, Moises, was great! A cool guy, very attentive and supportive, the classes were fun and informative. One night the school organized the party on the rooftop where Moises were teaching us to dance salsa and bachata. Very cool! All in all, it was a great experience, highly recommend it.

Experiencia fantástica: Great language school to learn the basics and more. I had two teachers during my time there (for beginners and then a more advanced class). They were both well prepared and knew a lot about grammar and explaining Spanish concepts. The school also organizes a fun language exchange and dance lessons on Wednesdays and there are class trips on Fridays. I think you’d have to take at least a week of classes to really get into the groove.

Experiencia fantástica: I had a great time studying at Toucan for about one month. I did one week to try out the school and make sure it was a good fit, and then booked two more weeks together, which gave me a discount! I loved loved my teacher, Laura, who was so kind, patient, and made wonderful relationships with her students. We would laugh every day and get to learn so much Spanish! The classes are a mix of watching educational videos, writing practice, listening, and speaking. I felt like I become much more comfortable practicing Spanish in different settings in Medellin thanks to toucan!

Experiencia fantástica: My husband and I almost signed up for another school, but went with Toucan Spanish School instead. I’m so happy we did! I loved the two weeks of classes there! My teacher, Sara, was excellent and was attentive to little details needed for language acquisition. She managed a challenging yet fun classroom. The school created a friendly and social environment with the events and terrace restaurant. The admin staff was also super helpful with situations not school related. The school is also in a great location. My only suggestion is for the assessment to be completed prior to Monday morning with a short zoom call or something. It took a bit of shuffling to get students in the appropriate level on Monday morning. I would definitely return to this school!

Experiencia fantástica: Toucan Spanish School is well located near Parque El Poblado. Apart from the classes, they have a couple of fun activities during the week. Our teacher Laura was incredible. She made learning easy and fun. She also taught us a lot about Colombian culture, traditions and history. I highly recommend this school.

He is very intelligent and can discuss a wide range of topics, helping you improve your Spanish skills. Experiencia fantástica: We started our travels through South America with a week of Spanish lessons in Medelín. My instructor, Pablo, has an expert grasp of languages, as well as many other topics. I learned quite a bit about grammar, pronunciation, and local culture. We also had so much fun learning the basics of salsa and going on field trips. Highly recommend!

Experiencia fantástica: I have been studying Spanish for many years and wanted some private tutoring while I was in Medellin. This was an excellent experience and was well worth the time and money. My teacher, Mariana, was excellent, and even as a student in 1on1 classes, I was invited to the schools many recreational events going on throughout the week. I would definitely come back on a future trip to Medellin, and would recommend this to anyone whether you are a beginner, or someone like me who is functionally fluent, but always looking to get better.

Experiencia negativa: I have recently had a terrible experience. It is especially disappointing since my in-person student experience with Toucan Medellin 8 years ago was so wonderful. This year my husband & I decided to try the online Spanish program offered by Toucan. I paid for 20 classes up front but after months of scheduling challenges and being passed between 4 different teachers, it just wasn't working so I asked for a refund of the remaining 10 classes. It took multiple emails to get a response and after several back and forths via email I was finally asked to send my bank details for transfer. It has now been almost two months and I have not received my refund and I can't get anyone to respond to me. Truly frustrating and disappointing. My hope is that this reviews gets their attention and I get my money back.

Valeria was super helpful and went above and beyond trying to help me. She even took me out on the town one night to help me learn the culture and conversate in Spanish. I am really excited about working with Valeria in the future and really cant say enough about my experience that week in Cali.

Experiencia fantástica: My two children (ages 14 and 11) and I studied at Toucan for three weeks in Medellin. We had a great experience. Toucan was very flexible and made accommodations for our needs. They allowed us to do two hours of classes each day (instead of the usual four hours) because I didn't think my kids would last four hours daily. They also let us switch up instructors after our first day because my kids needed more advanced instruction and I'm more of a beginner. My kids loved the two instructors they worked with and made great progress with their speaking skills. I was in Mariana's class and she's fantastic. She is a skilled instructor and knows how to teach the grammar in a clear and understandable way. I still have a long way to go with my Spanish skills but I am speaking it far more than I ever have with any of my efforts to learn Spanish. I definitely recommend Toucan. They are very professional and their prices were affordable and comparable to other language schools in the area.

Experiencia fantástica: I absolutely loved my experience at Toucan Spanish School in Medellín. Everything about it exceeded my expectations. The buildings and facilities were great and everyone was so helpful. Compared to many other language schools in the city, Toucan Spanish School was much more communcative with me when I had questions before and during booking, and they were extremely flexible with me when I had to make a change to my initial reservation. My teacher, Juliana, was the best I ever had. I am a teacher myself, and not only did I learn about the Spanish language from her, but I also learned a lot about great pedagogy and teaching practices. Highly recommend and I hope to be able to go back and study there again in the future!

Laura made the classes fun and she is just a natural and engaging teacher who really influences you to not only learn the language, but also about the Colombian culture and way of life. It really was a pleasure to go to class everyday and learn from Laura! I hope to take classes from her again one day.

Experiencia fantástica: My husband and I had a fabulous time at the Toucan Spanish School classes in Medellín, and both of us feel like we improved. The classes combined both practicing grammar points that are difficult for non-Spanish speakers and listening and speaking practice. My teacher, Laura, was a fountain of fascinating stories. She'd be telling us legends of various places in Colombia and then stop to explain an idiom for us--it was great. I feel like I made a friend My husband started out with another teacher, Marianna, whom he also loved, and later joined Laura's class. Another feature of the classes is that on Fridays, there's the opportunity to do something different, something Medellín-related--like learning to dance! Laura is also an amazing dance instructor! Everyone at the school also shares tips on great places to eat and must-see spots in Medellín. We loved the experience and highly recommend it!

My professors Laura & Mariana were so helpful and went above and beyond to explain everything regarding the Spanish language: verbs, vocabulary and grammar. We also explored the Colombian history and we were given some Spanish movie and series recommendations. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to either start learning Spanish or to improve his current Spanish.

Experiencia fantástica: I had a great experience at Toucan School, which can 100% be attributed to the Spanish teachers, especially Wendy. Although they were all fabulous! The only hiccup was it took 4 classrooms to get me into the right level of Spanish being taught. If on the first day you think you might be in the wrong level of class, I would highly recommend speaking with Alejandro or one of the teachers about doing an oral assessment to ascertain which classroom would be the right level (either higher or lower) so you only have to switch once. Instead my experience was they just moved up one level at a time, which was quite inefficient. If I had only been here one week, that would've been a disaster. Luckily I was taking classes for 6 weeks and once I was in the right class, my Spanish improved immensely. My teacher Wendy was INCREDIBLE. I hope you are lucky enough to get put into her class. She taught exactly to my level and was very flexible with teaching concepts I specifically wanted to improve (like subjunctive).

Experiencia fantástica: I spent 3 weeks at the school, following group classes. I dare say that my level has considerably improved during these 3 weeks, from knowing simply the present tense to being able to speak in the past and future tense, + learning a lot of vocabulary and local expressions. I want to thanks in particular my professor Sara for all the progress accomplished. Sara who more than an excellent teacher is an amazing person.

Experiencia fantástica: I had a wonderful experience over my 3 weeks with Toucan Spanish. After initially being placed in a class beyond my level I was quickly given the opportunity on my first day to switch classes. My new class, taught by Mariana, was a much better fit for my abilities. The class was absolutely wonderful and the highlight of my time in Medellín. We learned a great balance of grammar, speaking and listening skills, all while having fun along the way. The facilities are very clean and well kept, and the school is connected to the Medellín Expats, offering help for almost any issue or question you might have while in Colombia. Experiencia fantástica: I started online lessons this year at Bacano to get ready for my trip to Medellin. I considered myself to be at an intermediate level so I decided to go with the private online classes. I learned a lot at this time from my teacher Laura Lopez. I really liked how each week we could learn vocabulary, grammar, conversation, and use technology like computer programs to keep the learning fun. Laura is a fun teacher who is also patient and very knowledgeable. She is easy to talk to and good at getting you speaking which is really important. It’s so useful to have someone that can point out my errors in order to help me develop better speaking skills. I’ve tried to learn Spanish over the years but I’ve never had as much success in quickly improving my Spanish until I started these classes. When I got to Medellin for my trip, I was excited to go to my Spanish classes each day. The facility was super nice and was in a good location. For some classes we could go to locations in the city to experience immersion and practice talking to people in day to day scenarios. It’s easy to book classes on the website and they are affordable and flexible to take according to your schedule.

Experiencia fantástica: I chose this school mainly because of its location in the heart of Poblado. However, I'm glad I did as things turned out very well. I had an excellent teacher in Marianna with whom I did two weeks of classes. The school does a good job of gouping students according to ability and keeps the class sizes small.

Experiencia fantástica: I had 3 weeks of lessons here and it changed my life, more confident for the rest of my travels. They teach with a variety of materials and there are speaking opportunities! I like that the teachers are fun and kind, they really care about you. My teacher Laura showed me all the good clothes shops in San Antonio for example. Not just lessons but fun activities on Friday. Thank you teacher Wendy and Yitzel toooo I highly recommend this school.

Experiencia negativa: Classes were very unstructured - they allowed students to constantly move between different classes. This meant the lessons were often disrupted and the teachers did not know the level of everyone, often repeating material. They also did not use the standard language level framework and the teachers asked the students what we wanted to learn which of course was ridiculous as each student wanted to learn something different. There is no common area for classes to spend time during the breaks meaning it is very difficult to socialise outside your class. Finally, there were no cultural activities as promised on their website!! This is a pretty standard offering from a Spanish school and other students were upset about this too so I do not recommend this school at all. Would give 0 stars if I could. Furthermore, I just saw that the guy who runs the place, Alejandro Ramirez, posted his own Google review (5 stars of course) of the school! Do not go here!

Experiencia fantástica: I attended Toucan Spanish School for approximately 4 months. I started with a basic working vocabulary from taking high school Spanish, but, beyond that, I didn't have any real speaking ability. The management is super flexible- you are able to pay for a certain number of hours and, say, you want to skip a few days to go on an impromptu trip, you can; they will just credit your payment for further classes. I started with group classes, which I recommend for beginners. I was able to make many friends from different countries, and I learned basic conjugation, past tenses, future tense, Colombian phrases, and was able to describe things I did, people I knew, etc. For the beginner classes, I had Sara as a teacher. She is great at letting you speak and figure out things on your own, while still being able to explain why we would do things a certain way. Everyone who has Sara as a teacher knows how much she excites students to learn. I also took individual classes with Sara, and did smaller group classes with Laura. We worked on listening skills, story writing, everyday conversations, etc. Laura has traveled the whole country and has an infectious energy, plus her experience really shows when she is explaining difficult topics. I would say I did roughly 220 hours of lessons, bringing me from an A1 level to a high A2/low B1 level, based on the CEFR framework. Now, I will continue my learning stateside, using Duolingo, music, television, and speaking with native speakers in Florida. The great thing about Toucan is they also offer online classes, so I could potentially keep going with the classes even when I am not in Colombia.

I came to Medellín knowing no Spanish and left knowing a basic understanding & now I feel so confident when speaking. I also enjoyed the weekly Spanish activities and meeting other Spanish students. Since I only did private sessions, I enjoyed exploring and meeting other students in a fun/interactive way.

Experiencia fantástica: Spend three weeks at Toucan and had a great time. The school is located in a business center. The classrooms are clean, wel lit and airconditioned. The teachers were great(Sara and Laura) and gave it their all so that we had a great experience. The classes I took(group lessons) were 4 hours a day. This was very intense but thats how you make progress. Had a great stay overall.

Experiencia fantástica: I had the best time learning Spanish here. I was a bit unsure initially as some online websites say the school is closed. However, my emails were quickly answered and any doubts I had were no longer there. I completed 1 week of group classes and added on a 2 hr private class. I just wish I had more time. I had an understanding of basic level Spanish after doing around 8 hours of private lessons with a different tutor online. Toucan assessed my level of Spanish by a test prior to attending the school. Initially, I felt I was put into a class that was too advanced. After mentioning this, I was quickly changed to Sara's class which was a perfect fit for my level of learning. We had a small group of 4 people. I believe learning in a group environment really enhances your ability to expand your knowledge. We did 4hrs each day with a small break in between. The women working at the cafe were so nice and even helped us with our Spanish also! They have group activities on a Friday but you can also opt out of these if you prefer to continue learning which I appreciated only being there for 1 week. All the staff were so friendly and accommodating. Thank you to Sara who took our group class for the week. She is an excellent teacher who made learning easy and fun. Thank you to Wendy for my private class. She is also a wonderful teacher. One suggestion I would make, is to create the list of verbs in alphabetical order please! It made it very difficult to find the verb you needed when you're learning :) Another would be to add an evening or afternoon of 'language exchange' where all the classes could mix with teachers and speak Spanish together :) I wish I could come back! Experiencia fantástica: This is the best place to learn Spanish. Everything is well-organized, good communication and great teachers. I am a beginner, had absolutely no Spanish background and after 2 weeks with the beginner course, I already made very good progress. They arrange activities once per week in addition to the classes to experience something traditional of Medellin. All the teachers are talented but I want to give a special shout out to Sara :)

Experiencia negativa: I spent four weeks studying at Toucan. 3 in Medillin and 1 in Cartagena. This was my first experience at studying abroad so l didn’t really have a yardstick to go by. When l first arrived l wasn’t even approached and talked to about my level. They simply relied on an online assessment which was totally inadequate. The teacher was very young and inexperienced. Two years later l spent 4 weeks studying at Camino Barcelona Spanish school, which was phenomenal. I learnt more in 4 days at Camino than 4 weeks at Toucan. Coming from Australia I think there’s a huge gap between European and Sth American education standards and l certainly wouldn’t recommend Toucan. Robert Bercht

Experiencia fantástica: I have been taking zoom 1:1 classes with Melisa throughout the pandemia, since April and I have really improved my Spanish. I highly recommend Melisa as a teacher; she is patient, has a good knowledge of the English language in case she needs to help you understand concepts, and her explanations are easy to understand. She makes learning Spanish fun and has a well-rounded knowledge of different cultures, countries and world affairs. The administration at Toucan is very responsive and easy to work with, also. I would give Melisa and Toucan 10 stars if I could!

Experiencia fantástica: I took Spanish classes at toucan back in January. It was an amazing experience, I learned a lot and made a lot of great friends. My teacher was Stephanie Arroyave. She was great! Shes super nice and made the class a lot of fun, which made it easier to learn. She did a great job of making sure everyone understood and made sure that everyone was learning. Theyre so helpful and accommodating (and answer all emails and communications really quickly), and the classes themselves are such incredible value. Everyone I've interacted with there has been professional and really wants to help you learn the language. Attending the school when the country was shutting down, they were extremely communicative about our safety and how classes would transition to online-only for the time being. I researched a bunch of language schools before going to Medellín and would definitely recommend Toucan even though prices may be a little higher. My first teacher was Vanessa Chavez and she instantly recognized what I wanted, and needed, to improve. Vanessa is a very energetic and lively person. She mixes grammar and vocabulary while sharing personal things about being a Colombian and life in Medellín. Experiencia fantástica: Being able to communicate with local people during my 2.5 month trip through South America, I chose Toucan School in Medellin to learn/improve my Spanish skills. I want to emphasize that David is an excellent teacher. In the two weeks of language school, my class mates and I improved our Spanish skills much more than expected due to his great way of teaching. He is not only very knowledgeable as he teaches any kind of Spanish level but also a very nice person. We had a great atmosphere in class, laughed a lot, and David was always patient, open for any questions and made sure that the progress for every person is good. Thus you can be assured that you will have a great time in his class but also gain good Spanish skills. Overall, I highly recommend him as a teacher and Toucan as a language school. Everything is well organised, staff is very nice and the location is great!

Todavía estoy leyendo libros en español que el me recomendó. Pero los otros profes también son recomendables. La coordinación con Juan o heyka siempre fue tan amable y fácil. Si hubo un problema, siempre pudiste hablar con ellos. Me ayudaron con todo. El programa de las actividades también es muy bueno! Experiencia fantástica: I highly recommend Toucan Spanish School for learning Spanish in Medellín. It is situated in El Poblado where it is easy for you to find a hostel or AirBnB close by so you can walk to the school and can come back for the nice afternoon and evening activities like free salsa introduction course, colombian board games or the language exchange with locals. For group classes there is an online placement test you can do before starting and on Mondays you will be placed in a group according to your level. The teaching is very practical and oriented toward the grammer. No books are needed and you get a pen and a book for talking notes at the beginning of your time at Toucan. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Enjoy your learning with Toucan!

Experiencia fantástica: Compared to the little toucan school in Cartagena where I liked the familial atmosphere very much, Toucan in Medellin is quite bigger and a little less cozy but nevertheless I had a very good experience. The courses are well organised and I was lucky to have Stephanie as a teacher. She was super motivated, the classes were very diverse and she integrated the learning about daily activities such as baking and preparing food very well into her teaching. Also Daniel (teacher in training) was very enriching for the diversity of the class. I can definitely recommend learning Spanish in Toucan!

The facilities are great, front desk staff make everything easy to book in but the highlight for me was my awesome teacher Mateo, he makes Spanish fun and easy to learn, Mateo teaches at a pace that I am okay with and insures I am able to understand all the new information but also he manages to get a lot covered in our lessons. Very practical and useful Spanish that has meant that I am now able to communicate in Colombia and South America comfortably. The school also has a really great cafe downstairs and the double espressos not only taste great but help to make sure I’m fully switched on for my lessons. A massive thank you to Mateo and all the staff at Toucan I will see you on my next trip to Medellin.

Experiencia fantástica: Toucan is the perfect place to experience both Spanish language and Colombian culture while traveling. Each course is one week, so it is very easy to fit into my travel schedule. At the same time, the class is so intensive that I learned so much within this short period of time. Being a total beginner in Spanish, I felt I could start speaking simple sentences and recognizing words in places, like museums and restaurants, with only a few days of classes. Special thanks to my teacher, Ana María Duque, for being so motivated and patient! She was very organized in each classes, taking time to explain, review and clarify all the questions. I definitely would take more courses with Toucan if I have more time in Colombia. Totally recommended!!

Classes are focused, well structured, diverse and have a small number of students. The staff at toucan was always very friendly and welcoming. My instructors for group classes, Stephanie A and Aura, were both fantastic. They created different environments for learning that were effective and fun. I had private lessons with Vanessa C and she was a pleasure to work with. Her patience, creativity and sunny disposition made having conversations in Spanish very enjoyable. Toucan is a one stop shop. They offer many free activities during the week that allow you to experience the culture and meet other students. The language exchange (English/Spanish exchange with locals) is NOT to be missed. Toucan also offer dance classes and tours. I took group dance classes and the instructors are fantastically fun. I booked several tours with Toucan and each one was unique and memorable. Toucan makes you feel at home in Medellin and it's the only place to learn Spanish. Have fun out there :-)

I took both group classes, and for my areas of weakness I took private classes. All of the teachers are knowledgeable and organized. I had Melisa as my group class instructor and she was so friendly and hardworking. She would often follow up with us after class with additional learning material which is always helpful. Melisa was great! In addition to group/private classes the school was many more free and organized events to learn Spanish outside of the classroom.
